A Dales business which offers unique experiences for solo visitors to the Yorkshire Dales is thriving despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Emmas Dale Experience Retreat was launched last year by seasoned traveller Emma Bowers, 35, from West Witton.

After spending many years working in hospitality management overseas, Emma decided it was time to set up a project of her own and utilise the skills and experiences she had developed.

“I really wanted a business which incorporated amazing activities, wellness, delicious food and lots of personal touches.

“I found a gap in the market in the Yorkshire Dales for people wanting to travel solo or just to try something new and different.

“Having travelled solo many times, I find it such an enrichening experience and I really wanted to share my love for travel and adventure and creating memories with likeminded people. Being able to host the retreats in my home area is a huge bonus.”

Having lived in the Yorkshire Dales most of her life, Emma said she was now really learning to appreciate what there was to offer.

“It is so stunning and there are many amazing local businesses with so much to offer and being able to give packages which incorporate some of these ventures along with this beautiful part of the country, is a dream.”

Emmas Dale Retreats offer a variety of one-day and overnight breaks which vary from staying in luxury country houses to getting in touch with the outdoors in glamping accommodation.

Emma said the breaks attracted a mix of people from all over the country.

“You can expect a variety of activities such as stand up paddle boarding and gorge walking, paired up with important wellness activities such as yoga and sound baths.

“I cater the retreats myself using delicious produce and healthy recipes however, it isn’t all about eating healthy, and there is plenty of opportunity for treats and your favourite gin and tonic.

“You can also expect live music and fire pits on some of our new retreats in 2021, a real opportunity for a fun weekend with new friends.”

In 2021, Emma says she aims to champion as many local businesses as possible and utilise the talent in the area,

“I couldn’t run these retreats on my own without them,” she added.
