Lawmaker says campaign records seized by FBI during raid of home, business

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Tennessee state lawmaker says his campaign records were seized by the FBI during a raid of his home and business earlier this month.

Rep. Todd Warner, R-Lewisburg, made the disclosure in an email explaining to state regulators why he would not be able to file a required campaign financial disclosure report for the fourth quarter of 2020.

“The FBI confiscated all files and documents related to my campaign including check copies from donations and checking account ledgers,” Warner wrote.

“They also took all computers and back ups for the Campaign and my business. I will get the information to you as soon as the documents/computers are released.”

His disclosure to the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance was due Monday.

Warner, a freshman lawmaker, was one of three Republican representatives whose home and offices were raided by the FBI on January 8. The raids also targeted former House Speaker Glen Casada and Rep. Robin Smith, along with two former Casada aides.

A fourth lawmaker’s office was also searched.
