A North West grandma who runs a takeaway business from her terraced home has gone viral, thanks to the efforts of a food reviewer on YouTube.
Danny Malin, the foodie behind the channel Rate My Takeaway, decided to pay a trip to Grandma’s Kitchen in Bolton to try Marion Love’s now famous cooked breakfast.
He even set up a portable table outside her home on Charles Street, Farnworth, so he could tuck into his full English breakfast while it was still piping hot. And he followed up his mal with some home-made cookies…. because, why not.
The clip, described by one fan as “the most northern video in history, has now been viewed more than 1.1million times since being uploaded on April 11, reports the MEN.
Marion already had 30,000 followers on her Facebook and Instagram pages for her business, but admits that since Danny’s review it’s “all gone a bit crazy”.
The 50-year-old said since the video was uploaded to YouTube she’s gained lots of new followers and received several lovely messages of support.
She said: “It’s all gone a bit crazy! The YouTube algorithm has just been suggesting it to everybody. He’s done other videos as well but it was a bit different, with being outside my house, and people seem to like it.
“I’ve probably gained 1,000 followers and loads of people have been giving me love and support. It’s just blowing up.”
In 2019, Ms Love announced plans to open a cafe in Piggott Street, Farnworth, but construction was delayed due to the pandemic.
Building work is now well underway and it’s hoped that it will be ready to open in summer.
She added: “It’s going brilliantly. Covid didn’t help but it is what it is and I’m a believer that everything happens at the right time when it’s meant to.
“Things are looking great, we’re looking at the end of July/August when, fingers crossed, we can open.”
The Rate My Takeaway channel has been a huge success since it was set up and now has more than 112,000 subscribers and more than 5.9m views, despite only being set up in June 2020.
Host Danny has tired out everything from doughnuts to burgers and fish and chips. Sadly, it appears he’s yet to venture over to try Lancashire’s finest food offerings – but we can’t wait for him to visit!
